saturday was one of those great days that makes me happy to live in harvard square. low 60s, sunny. i went and walked around, and sat down in the little area where the artists perform. there was a guy playing a guitar. He just kinda jammed for a while, and played a Neil Young song, and then decided to take a break, so he came over and we talked for like an hour. he was a cool guy, been doing music for a while, though seemed a little lost as to what he wanted to do with his life (so we related well). the conversation flowed, and i learned about his 23-year old girlfriend, heading for med school by the way of a spiritual cleansing through manual labor on a vermont farm, his desire to take random classes to augment his lack of a college education, and his experiences teaching kids. In the course of our talk, a couple of the other street performers came by - an MIT guy Blake, who does a living statue out there, and a guy who does a magic show (with his 10-year old daughter in tow). The magician was particularly funny cause he started talking to me:

"Hey, haven't seen you here before. How are you finding working out here?"
- Uh, fine, I guess
"I was very impressed with your show"
- Umm. You mean sitting here?

Turns out there was a dude that looked vaguely like me doing a set out there before. the funniest part was that the magician completely ignored me for the rest of the conversation, and shot accusatory looks at my new friend, who had to defend his right to talk to me (apparently in violation of the carny code). i did learn that you can bring in $100-200 playing guitar in the square for a day, and the permit is only $40. so now i know i am making a good time and money investment.

oh, i also went to the bookstore and though the puter section had nothing, the music section hit me with a "computer music tutorial" - an 800 page book on everything i ever wanted to know.

the days when everything just goes your way kick ass.
